Danville, Montour County -- Eight-year-old Sara Walter is always smiling, even when she found out that her only foot had to be amputated.
Sara's mother Robin said her daughter's only fear was learning how to swim, something she shared with Physician Assistant Stacy Lockcuff before the operation.
The orthopedic surgery team at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville made a promise, and Sara unwrapped a bright pink, super sparkly, fully functional mermaid tail, customized to fit her perfectly.
A Mermaid Tale: Hospital Staff Helps Girl Swim Without Feet
The fin was donated by The Two Tails, a company that specializes in everything aquatic.
Sara doesn't have to feel like an outcast anymore. In fact, she's already planning her first underwater adventure.
It's all thanks to the dedicated staff that turned a dream into a reality, and gave this mermaid tale a happy ending.
